We'll always have....Geneva

As I do well remember, I have never fallen in love with any man by what the Italians call "colpo di fulmine"... In contrast, I still keep this first-sight, permanent and incredibly irrational attachment to one city - Geneva. Each time I go there, I have the same feeling as ever.....home, my home.

My memories are so fresh since the first time I set my eyes on the Lake of Leman, that I even can't believe it was such a long time ago!  Then I follow the morning sun path on the water seen behind the flowers of Villa Barton, lunches at Cafe du Soleil, my girls' hot chocolate at Hotel d'Angleterre, the terrace with a view to the Jet d'Eau, writing my memos in the park with the Brandenburg concerts' CD, dinners at Lipp, crazy nights in smoky clubs at Carouge, mornings again with hangover and long, long never-ending working meetings. My serene loneliness amidst some of the most important decisions in my life....All these years squeezed in a short, repeatedly returning trailer...

Jorge Luis Borges, whose wife María Kodama I had the chance to meet, pronounced the best matching phrase about this special city:

The other, slightly "informal" Geneva

And... where all these stories begin....

1 st March

Martenitsa

is a small piece of adornment, made of white and red yarn and worn from March 1 until around the end of March (or the first time an individual sees a stork, swallow, or budding tree). The name of the holiday is Baba Marta "Baba" (баба) is the Bulgarian word for "grandmother March", an old lady with changing moods. Baba Marta is a Bulgarian tradition related to welcoming the upcoming spring.

On the first day of March and for a few days afterwards, Bulgarians exchange and wear white and red tassels or small dolls. This is an old pagan tradition that remains almost unchanged today.Wearing one or more martenitsi is a very popular Bulgarian tradition. The martenitsa symbolises new life, conception, fertility, and spring. The time during which it is worn is meant to be a joyful holiday commemorating health and long life. The colours of the martenitsa are interpreted as symbols of purity and life, as well as the need for harmony in Nature and in people's lives.

Belle trouvaille - Maria Callas chante Dalila

...And the lyrics have something more than seductive charm. It's to each one of us to discover his own feelings...

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgr1iEy8VJ4

A sunny winter morning, somewhere in Europe...Caribbean music and a couple following the rhythm, looking each other in the eyes and singing  "I care for you, for you and only for you...". Finally, they hug; he kisses her on the cheek and says "I love dancing with you, Mummy !". She helps him to get down off the table (since he is still only 117 cm tall ) and to finish his English homework...And till he grows up and finds someone else to care for, she will remain happy...Because he is the only man in this world who is entirely hers...

A story my mother reminded me last week…

There was a man who suffered a lot.  The cross of his life seemed to him unbearable. Finally, he decided  to ask God to change his destiny. He fell on his knees and cried:
“My Lord, the cross you gave me to pass through life is too hard for me, almost impossible! Please, my Lord, have pity on me and give me something not so big and heavy!”
“Well," was the response “go to the valley of crosses and choose the one you think is good for you!”
The man turned and saw a long valley full of crosses: big, heavy, made of iron…He was walking and walking around and finally found a smaller one, something he was considering less unbearable.
“This one” he said
“Poor man, God answered, “this is your cross, the one you had on your shoulders and wished to change...”
